The CrossFit Games Open 2011 is over!

The CrossFit Games Open 2011 are over. 26.000+ crossfitters have participated worldwide in the 6 workouts. Next step is the CrossFit Games Regionals. Regionals will decide who will represent the Regions at the CrossFit Games 2011.

In 2007, the competition was one mixed modal workout, one 3K hill run, and a strength test in the form of the CrossFit Total. In 2008, there were 4 events: 2 couplets, a short, steep hill run, and a relatively heavy, high rep squat clean and jerk. In 2009, there were 8 events of broad time and modal domains. In 2010, there were 9 blended events that tested different elements of fitness in each workout. In 2011, it will for sure be different again.

If the Games are well programmed, it should be extremely difficult to get lucky and have the competition favor your limited strengths. The event should according to CrossFIt HQ’s believe punish the specialist and not favor one body type over another.

Some have suggested using a combination of age and weight classes or some form of power calculator to “even out” differences in body types for the Games. To win the CrossFit Games, you must be able to move your own body and specific external objects according to established standards better than anyone else, no matter your size, height or age.

CrossFit has grown tremendously over the past number of years. The Fittest on Earth are celebrities of sorts and, with a $1M purse this year, close to becoming professional athletes.

Specialists need not apply. Marathon runners will not finish on top. Nor will powerlifters, bodybuilders, football players, sprinters , nor anyone else whose athletic prowess is limited to a narrow field of expertise. An 800-lb. deadlift won’t help you much on a long run, and endless endurance won’t help you with an Olympic lift that requires unbelievable speed and power for one instant. Only well-rounded athletes with no chinks in their armor will have a chance to win the CrossFit Games, and the competition will be grueling and fierce.

At the conclusion of the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games, 1 man and 1 woman will be crowned the Fittest on Earth. They will represent this year’s evolution of the fittest athlete, and their training methods and performance will inspire the community to lift just a little more, run just a little faster, and work just a little harder to achieve a lifetime of health and fitness.
